Modified Mallampati Classification

Modified Mallampati Classification appears to be a clinically useful predictor of successful intubation.

The score is assessed in a sitting position. Patient is asked to open a mouth and to protrude the tongue as much as possible.

Class I: Faucial pillars, soft palate, and uvula visualized.

Class II: Faucial pillars and soft palate visualized, but uvula masked by tongue base.

Class III: Only soft palate visualized.

Class IV: Soft palate not visualized.
