Subcutaneous Engineered Stabilization Devices


In the 2016 Standards, a new category called Subcutaneous Engineered Stabilization Devices (ESDs) has been added. The new Standards state: subcutaneous ESDs have been successful in stabilizing PICCs (Periferally Inserted Central Catheters) and CVADs (Central Venous Access Devices), patient outcomes and patient and inserter satisfaction have been favorable; however, additional studies with other CVADs are needed.
